Our immigration team is accredited by the Law Society to advise on all areas of UK immigration law. We are one of the few firms in the Black Country who specialise in immigration law and are able to provide legal aid in this area of law.
The immigration team is based at our offices in Dudley. You will see from this website that we also have offices in Stourbridge, Wolverhampton and Kidderminster. We are more than happy to accommodate you at these offices if it is difficult for you to travel to Dudley.

- Asylum (both pre-decision and post-decision including appeals)
- Fresh asylum claims
- Human Rights applications (including appeals)
- Deportation matters (including appeals)
- Removal from the UK (including appeals)

If you are living in the UK illegally then we will be able to advise you on your position including whether you may be able to obtain permission to be in the UK.
A large number of people live in uncertainty because they do not have permission to be in the UK but are afraid to attempt to regularise their stay here in case they are returned to their home country. We understand that, due to the position you may be in, you may be worried or concerned, however, all the information that you give to us is treated in the strictest confidence. As solicitors, we are not permitted to disclose information given to us by clients without your consent (with some very limited exceptions). In other words, if you are here illegally and you come to see us, we will not report you to the Home Office. Our job is to provide you with advice on your options - to try to help you – not to make things difficult for you.
If you have an immigration matter which is not listed above, then please contact us. It is very likely that we will be able to help but, due to the wide range of immigration matters, it is not possible to list everything on this webpage.
Language barriers
We have access to interpreters in all languages. If you are unable to speak English we are able to arrange for interpreters to assist. We cannot usually arrange for an interpreter for an initial appointment but, once we have met you, we can usually provide interpreters for future meetings. If you qualify for free Legal Help (please see below) then interpreters can be provided to you free of charge.
Detention
If you are detained in a prison or a detention centre local to the West Midlands we are able to visit you to discuss your immigration matters.
If you are disabled and/or housebound
If you live in the West Midlands and you have a disability which prevents you from leaving your house, we are able to visit you at home. If you require a home visit, please contact us to discuss this.
Other areas of law
There are often other legal issues in immigration cases which affect the same people, for example, family matters or criminal proceedings.
A High Court judge recently commented that, when different firms of solicitors are instructed in different matters relating to the same people, “This necessary division of labour comes at a price: the fragmentation of knowledge and responsibility”. In other words, where one firm of solicitors represents a client in one area of law, for example, an immigration matter and a different firm represents the client in, say, a family matter the two firms do not always understand the procedure in the two different matters and communication between the two firms can cause difficulties.
It is good practice and better for you as a client for one firm of solicitors to deal with all your matters where possible, particularly when information from one matter is required in order to deal with the other matter. At Talbots we have dedicated teams to deal with family law, crime, employment, debt and welfare benefits. We all work as a team for the benefit of our clients.
Free legal advice
Legal Help (formerly legal aid) is available in this area of law. Many people think that you can only qualify for legal aid if you are in receipt of benefits, however, Legal Help can be available even if you are employed.
Please see the “Useful Links” section of this website for a link to a calculator that may help you to assess your eligibility for Legal Help. You will need to select “Legal Help” on the first screen of the calculator.
Alternatively, please contact us by telephone or email to either discuss your eligibility for Legal Help or to arrange an appointment so that we can assess your eligibility in person.
If you do not qualify for Legal Help then our private rates remain very competitive.
